Letter from Abbotsford Police Chief Constable Bob Rich to all parents

posted Feb 15, 2012 1:37 PM by Dexter Horton

In the past 2 months, 2 young people from Abbotsford have died after taking what they believed to be the drug commonly known as Ecstasy. It is impossible to imagine what these families are now going through. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.
We believe arming parents with information is an effective way to reduce the risk that children will experiment with these drugs. We know kids are curious and as teens they will take more risks than at any other time of their lives. We need them to understand that trying something, even once, can lead them down a path of despair and/or death.

Attached below is a letter from Abbotsford Police Chief Constable Bob Rich to all parents, issuing a warning to parents about the dangers of ecstasy and other drug use, our joint efforts to educate students about drug use, and some resources and tips for parents.

Letter from the Superintendent of Schools regarding the FSA

posted Jan 23, 2012 9:18 AM by Dexter Horton

The Ministry of Education requires that school districts throughout BC administer the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) to students in Grades 4 and 7 each year. The assessment measures student competency in the areas of Reading, Writing and Numeracy (Math). In the Abbotsford School District the tests are scheduled to be completed between January 16th and February 24th. Each test has an online as well as a paper and pencil component. The tree tests take about 90 minutes each to complete.

Schools and Districts use the results of this assessment to monitor the effectiveness of their programs and to make decisions about how and where to allocate resources. The individual results are also shared with parents to inform them of their child's progress.
